Well, it's been a while since I've submitted anything, so here we are - this shot is of Tim Wheeler, Ash's lead singer and guitarist, from their gig at the QMU in Glasgow... Title seemed fitting since it was the first gigs they've done in a while, and the first gig I've used my D200 at.
And yes, it is a little soft, but I guess that's the F/1.8 showing its limitations...
You actually said to me on MSN - "That's the lens," hence my comment... sometimes I wish I could post images on here with an option box that says "don't tell Niall I'm posting for a few days..." heh heh heh.
In retrospect, I could have used a higher ISO, but I hate high ISO photos, so no dice punk. Blart.
Thing is, I've realised that shooting for online use creates an issue that doesn't matter in print.
On standard newspaper stock, images are soft anyway, because of the gash paper quality, as well as the high volume printing - shooting for web reviews means that people are looking at your photos on TFTs that betray even the slightest drop in sharpness, which means you don't have the forgiveness that, to use a phrase I read in Strobist's blog, photos printed on Charmin offer.
Personally, I hate this photo now. It's just an "almost there" shot that isn't quite perfect, and it annoys me every time I look at it. I need another gig to set things right...

This is a special feature, with a selection of 50 manips from the past year that we loved.
